The Gerke Family — Newborn Studio Session in Launceston

There’s something so special about welcoming a brand new little person into the studio, and Baby Halle certainly made an impression! Mum Laura and Dad Brad travelled all the way from Bridport for their newborn session after receiving a gift card from my friends at Babyland—such a thoughtful present for new parents.

Meet the Family

Laura and Brad are the kind of parents who bring a sense of calm with them, even on very little sleep. And then there was Halle—tiny, adorable, and sporting the crankiest newborn face I’ve ever seen. Honestly, she had a whole catalogue of unimpressed expressions, which made the session even more delightful and memorable.

The Session Story

From the moment they arrived, the Gerke family wanted to keep things simple and relaxed. Laura knew she wanted black and white newborn portraits with a clean, minimalist setup—no fuss, no distractions, just timeless images that would let Halle’s little features shine.

Newborn sessions in the studio often have their own rhythm, and Halle set the pace with her adorably grumpy expressions and occasional sleepy moments. Even with her attitude (which I loved), the session felt incredibly calm. We took our time, gently positioning her and creating a series of classic, softly lit portraits that fit Laura’s vision perfectly.

This is exactly the kind of session I adore—simple, relaxed newborn photography where the focus stays on connection, tiny details, and emotions that change so quickly in those early days.

Their Final Artwork

After their viewing appointment, Laura and Brad decided on a beautiful 24-inch canvas of Halle, the perfect hero piece for their home. They also selected a handful of matted prints to give as Christmas gifts—timeless keepsakes their family will treasure.

It’s always such a privilege to create artwork that becomes part of someone’s family story, and I loved every minute of working with the Gerkes.
