What Happens at a Viewing Appointment?
For a lot of families, the part after the photography session is actually the bit they feel most unsure about.
You’ve had the photos taken.
The kids survived.
Everyone made it through without anyone needing to be bribed with an entire packet of Tiny Teddies.
And then comes the next question:
“What happens now?”
That’s where the viewing appointment comes in.
You’ll See Your Photos for the First Time
Your viewing appointment is when you see your finished images for the first time.
Usually, we start with a slideshow. This gives you a chance to simply sit, watch, and take them in before we start making any decisions.
And honestly, this is often one of my favourite parts of the whole process.
After all the planning, the session itself, the small moments, the chaos, the cuddles, the in-between expressions — this is where you finally get to see what it all looked like from my side of the camera.
Then We Sort Through the Images Together
After the slideshow, we go through the images properly.
Not in a rushed or overwhelming way.
We start out by looking at small groups of 3-4 similar images together and just try to decide which of those do you want to have a second look at.
Yes.
No.
Maybe.
That’s it.
You don’t need to come in knowing exactly what you want. Although by the time we’re at the viewing appointment we’ve had a few chats about it so most people have a rough idea of what they want.
But others don’t, and that’s ok! The whole point of doing this together is that I can guide you through the decision-making rather than leaving you at home with a gallery and 300 tabs open trying to figure it out by yourself.
We Talk About What You Actually Want to Do With Them
This is where the viewing appointment becomes really helpful.
Because choosing your favourite images is one thing.
Choosing what to do with them is another.
Some families know straight away they want artwork for the wall. Others are drawn to albums, memory boxes, matted prints, or smaller pieces for grandparents.
Some people come in saying, “I honestly have no idea.”
That’s completely fine.
We’ll talk about your home, your walls, your space, your budget and what feels realistic for your family.
We Can Design Artwork to Scale
One of the most helpful parts of the viewing appointment is being able to see what your images could actually look like in your home.
If you’ve sent through photos of your walls, we can use those to create mockups and show artwork to scale.
This means you’re not trying to imagine whether something will be too big, too small, or just right while staring at a blank wall and hoping for the best.
You can actually see it.
That makes the decision feel much clearer.
The plan
The finished collection
There’s No Minimum Order
This is important.
There is no minimum order.
You are not locked into a package.
You are not expected to spend a certain amount.
You are not going to be told what you “should” buy.
Everything is chosen after you’ve seen your images, and the right order is the one that feels right for your family.
That might be one piece for the wall.
It might be an album.
It might be a collection of prints.
It might be a mix.
We’ll work it out together.
Let’s Talk About the Pressure Thing
I know the fear.
You come in to look at your photos and worry that suddenly I’m is going to turn into a greasy car salesman with a price list and a laser pointer.
Please know, I am probably just as horrified by that idea as you are.
I don’t want you to feel pressured. I don’t want you to feel cornered. And I definitely don’t want you to go home wondering, “What just happened?”
My job is to guide you, not talk you into things you don’t want.
I’ll explain the options clearly. I’ll answer questions honestly. I’ll help you compare what makes sense. But the decisions are yours.
Payment Plans Are Available
Family photography is something most people plan for.
That’s normal.
If you love more than you expected, or you’d prefer to spread payments out, payment plans are available.
We can talk through what feels manageable and build something around that.
All of my payment plans are managed in house, which means I can be flexible, if you want to pay extra one week, or you forgot your rego is due and need to skip a week it’s all doable.
I would much rather help you make a calm, considered decision than have you feel like you need to decide based on pressure or panic.
Why I Do Viewing Appointments in Person
I know online galleries can feel convenient.
But for many families, they can also feel overwhelming.
You might love fifty images and have no idea where to start. You might keep changing your mind. You might mean to come back to it later and then life gets busy and the decision sits there for weeks.
The in-person viewing appointment gives you space to finish the process properly.
You’re not doing it alone.
You’re not guessing.
You’re not trying to measure walls with your eyeballs.
You have someone there to guide you through it step by step, showing you what a wall collection will look like on your wall to scale.
You can take the guessing out of the equation all together
It’s Meant to Feel Clear, Not Complicated
The viewing appointment isn’t there to make things more intense.
It’s there to make things easier.
You get to see your photos, choose your favourites, talk through product options, look at what suits your home, and make a decision with support.
No pressure.
No mystery.
No greasy car salesman energy.
Just a calm appointment where we work out what you actually want to do with the photos you love.
