The Bauld Family - Newborn Portraits at Home

Lucy and Stuart are LONG time friends of mine, I grew up down the street from Lucy, our parents are best friends and we’ve known each other since kindergarten, so when she asked me to be their “official family photographer” after the birth of her first son I couldn’t really say no!

It was a rainy day when I photographed Lucy, Stuart and Elliot at their home, I normally recommend photographing newborns either in the studio or at home (and generally lean towards home whenever possible) as it means you’re not at the mercy of the weather, especially for those winter babies! Photographing at home also means that you have everything you need at hand and don’t have to worry about packing changes of clothes and nappies and all the million other things that babies seem to need! It also means that the background of your photos is your home which just gives another dimension of you and your family to the photographs.

Elliot was only 6 days old when we took these photographs. I normally recommend doing newborn photography as early as possible, as babies often start to develop a bit of acne around the 2 week mark. Lucy also made the great point that even though they were already tired 6 days in, it was nothing compared to a week or two later and the bags under her eyes just a week later were FAR more visable! Her words, not mine! but she makes a good point!

Lucy’s Dad and sister also joined us at the end of the shoot for some pictures, which was really nice to be able to capture how their core family has now changed.
